Ashika Capirala
I’m a 5th-year PhD candidate and NASA FINESST Fellow at Purdue University working with Dr. Stephanie Olson. I study the co-evolution of physical ocean & atmospheric circulation with marine biogeochemistry in deep time. Using 3D models, I investigate factors controlling ocean oxygen over long timescales to understand changes in marine habitability.
I enjoy working at the interface between (sub)disciplines and my long-term goals are to explore the oxygenation and evolution of Earth's oceans from a systems perspective & with a variety of techniques.
I’m committed to efforts that connect scientific narratives to society via connection with the arts and humanities. Specifically, I aim to increase curricular accessibility and social responsibility within the Earth and planetary sciences via study of history & geography + network-building + art-science educational development + student retention. For more, see my PROJECTS.
Outside work, I enjoy reading, traveling, and exploring museums. I do design and illustration work on the side - click GALLERY to explore.
